The reason these domains are sort after are because of there generic nature. Our example we used earlier of business.com could be used for any business related site. These domains also attract a lot of type-in traffic, that is to say web users will type in a dictionary domain then .com into their address bar to find a site. This is essentially lifetime free traffic to whom ever owns the domain.

Are dictionary domains still available?

As the English language evolves new words are constantly appearing. If you hear a new term you can try to search for it at a domain registrar and see if it's available. If you manage to get your hands on one of these domains and it does become popular you could end up owning a million dollar domain.
